Many people would agree that Paul Kelly's song writing and performances over the years have given him iconic status so we are very pleased to announce the release of the DVD 'Live Apples' which was filmed in Toowoomba's stately Empire Theatre during his 2007 tour.
With a six piece band comprising some of the old gang with a couple of fresh faces Paul dedicated the first half of the show to performing his latest album Stolen Apples from first note to last before following up with a ramble through his wide-ranging back catalogue.
'It's the first time in a while I've been out with two electric guitar players as well as keyboards', says Paul. 'That gave us the full colouring book. We went back and studied the old recordings, which I hadn't listened to for some time and built our arrangements from there. Everybody in the band could sing as well which gave us a chance to build some big choruses and harmonies'
The Stolen Apples section of the show, performed with humour, tenderness and intensity, in front of a backdrop of arresting imagery, enthralled audiences night after night. Barely catching their breath the crowd was then treated to panoramic versions of classics such as To Her Door, Before Too Long, Deeper Water and How to Make Gravy along with rarely heard gems, Street Of Early Sorrows, Going About My Father's Business and many others.
The tour spanned the country from the Kimberleys to the far North West and the Renegade film crew caught the band four weeks in, well into the groove.
A beautiful old theatre, an excited audience, a band digging deep into their songs, five cameras, and at the helm the director of the legendary AC/DC video 'It's A Long way To The Top If You Want To Rock and Roll'.
Paul Kelly 'Live Apples' DVD and Special Edition CD/DVD with 32 page booklet available on April 26.
