Timor Leste: Freedom rising – 2005

Sounding like the son of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis, Tex Perkins makes an appearance with the rest of The Cruel Sea on No Choice, featuring slow rhythmic guitars and the novel addition of woodwind solos. Advocate for charity, and frequent false nail applier (along with Paul McCartney) John Butler brings his trio along for a rendition of their recent release, Treat Yo Mama.

Standout track, Dallas Crane’s exclusive acoustic version of Numb All Over, is ethnically enhanced with “Zorba the Greek” style backbeat and foreign acoustic particulars, followed by the luscious ballad, The River, from ARIA darling Missy Higgins. Organisational partaker Paul Kelly, and nephew Dan Kelly, join forces for the previously unreleased religiously steered emotion of track God Told Me, followed by the stunningly innocent Down River from the Wilcannia Mob, featuring didgeridoo and beat-boxing, forming an interesting synthesis of Aboriginal meets hip-hop culture.
